The city of Attalla is located in Etowah County and is home to over 6,000 residents. It occupies the site of an Indian village that was of considerable importance during the Creek War. In 1887 it became the first town to be powered by a hydro-electric plant, the invention that was the precursor Southern Company and Alabama Power.
