The Alabama State Banking Department is divided into two bureaus. The Bureau of Banks regulates all state-chartered banks, their bank holding companies, and state-chartered trust companies. The Bureau of Loans regulates lenders such as small loan companies, consumer credit lenders, pawnshops, mortgage brokers, deferred presentment service providers, and mortgage loan originators.
