Gainesville is a small town located in Sumter County in west-central Alabama. The town is situated along Highway 39 with nearly 280 residents. With a rich history that predates the American Civil War, Gainesville is home to several historic sites and districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.
