Welcome to the town of Newton

The town of Newton is located in Dale county in southeastern Alabama near Fort Rucker. Originally the county seat until 1870, Newton encompasses 14.3 square miles with over 1,470 residents today. The town is the site of several Civil War ghost stories documented by author Kathryn Tucker Windham in her book “13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey.”
